Facing the truth

Going back to the beginning is not as easy as it sounds. What some call the Mid life crisis isn’t always the crisis it seems. Already deciding that connections we make as kids are some of the most important of all, looking back for me it’s been true. I met both my one true love, my best friend, husband and father of my children all age 18. In fact all the significant relationships in my life were age 18.

So is a mid life crisis where we try to make sense of our lives so far? Sometimes looking back and taking a few steps again can make sense of so much. So many resentments and decisions can be justified. Once you have, in a way, made peace with yourself for that decision you are able to leave it to experience.

Memories

Memory Loss and how do we lose memories ?

where do memories come from and where do we store them? Memories that are attached to emotion are stored easier and we keep those images and memories longer. Memories that are stored in the amygdala are attached to strong emotion. These memories form the way we react to some situations. What we experience as a child form the way we deal with similar situations as an adult. Therefore when we find that behaviors we display as an adult are a bit of a mystery to us, going back in time to childhood can help us understand behavior patterns that maybe affecting our daily lives.

For instance if we suffer a trauma as a child it will shape how we deal with fear and strong emotion as we go into adulthood. Childhood trauma shapes who we become because it shapes the way the brain develops and neurons behave. Neurons in the brain grow and carry messages from the nervous to the brain and back the other way. It controls our flight or fight response when we are faced with fear. Pleasant memories that are attached to emotion cause a very different response. In light of the situation you are in at the time. The amygdala stores and processes the emotions sent to it. The amygdala decides whether the brain stores that memory and especially where it stores it. Negative emotions will be stored in the same way as pleasant.

Learning a task is much easier and stored for longer when it is attached to emotion. In light of this if you want to learn a particular task then it is easier and quicker if you are actually enjoying what you are learning or teaching . When I teach a person to drive, it really makes a differetnce to the progress and success we makes,
