BE YOUR OWN THERAPIST is it possible to be your own therapist? with self knowledge and recognition of the need for self awareness.

The power of self knowledge and mindfulness is unending. With the power to be in control of your own make the possibilities endless. Baring in mind that we only use a small percentage of our brains capacity, even controlling that we are capable of leading a full and rich life. By rich I don’t necessarily mean in a material sense, but about living a life that is full of memories and fulfilment. Do you really want to spend your whole life trying to get through the next day because you have no idea what your life means or what it’s purpose is.

SELF REFLECTION...UNCOMFORTABLE ?

BE YOUR OWN THERAPIST

withdrawal from many years of being on antidepressants has not been easy. However it is getting easier. One thing is for sure , better advice comes from those who have experience to hand down.

WITHDRAWING FROM ANTIDEPRESSANTS
WITHDRAWAL IS WORTH IT

it’s become a fact that the longer I was on them, more of myself was muted and hidden. I actually lost half of myself. Let’s not lose sight of the existence of conditions for which long term medication is essential. Although if you get the opportunity to push the reset button and let yourself back out, it’s well worth it. In terms of awakening the senses, it’s like pulling back the curtains and the sun shining right into your face.

pat attention to your body

PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR BODY

pay attention to you body . If you are able to and you feel you need to, sleep. Allow yourself the rest without feeling guilty or weak. SSRI’S and any kind of mood stabilising drugs alter your brain and body chemistry. Long term use means that both become addicted to that chemistry formula. That formula becomes “you” and you don’t even realise it has happened. In time you forget who you were almost.

SELF REFLECTION....UNCOMFORTABLE

SPARE A THOUGHT FOR THOSE THAT HELP US

there is so much pressure on the health service and doctors under normal conditions let alone the current circumstances. Mental health is in some ways left to fall down the list of priorities. The fact is our minds and brain control our bodies. I believe that if our mental health became paramount our physical health would be a whole lot better. For some reason though the human race has been afraid of dealing with the mind and it’s well being. it’s easier to treat the physical body.

I’m guessing it’s because we don’t know enough about it. It’s not what we can see that is dangerous but what we cannot yet see. When my children were small and hurt themselves, it was always more of a worry to me when they bumped their heads. Broken bones, cuts and bruises could be seen. Maybe one day soon, in the not too distant future, we will accept that learning as much as we can about the brain and mind is the answer to everything.

BE YOUR OWN THERAPIST ways in which you can help yourself.

MAKE A LIST EVERYDAY FOR THE NEXT. If you are suffering from depression , anxiety or withdrawal. Right a list the night before of small tasks to complete the next day. A reason to get out of bed and get through another day. At the end of each day, look at what you have managed to cross off that list and feel good.

PLAN FOR THE FUTURE

plan for the future

make plans for the future. Any plans doesn’t matter what it is. Maybe learning a new skill. It could be something you have always wanted to do but haven’t had the time, energy or even inclination. Think about where you want to be in say 5 years time. Look to a future that you can create for yourself. It’s so hard to think in that way but take each day at a time.

PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR FEELINGS AND SENSATIONS

emotional apathy

You matter, your feelings and sensations matter. The emotions you are feeling and the sensations that go through your body when you are not feeling yourself. If you accept the unpleasant emotions and physical symptoms then you learn to enjoy the good times and want them even more. Appreciate that you can feel unpleasant emotions as well as pleasant. Learning ways to work through them is a steep learning curve but a positive one. It takes strength and fortitude. You never know how much of that you have until you need it. You have to go through difficult times in order to grow and find out everything about yourself.
